My Artistic Narrative
I create to remember what connects us - to excavate the spaces, the roots and rivers that run beneath our individual stories.
My work moves across languages, forms, and senses because lived experience doesn't fit into single categories.
I seek beauty as revelation and truth. As light that makes visible what was always there in the dark void.
As a child, I loved creating my own stories and worlds. The first ten years of my life were magical, as I grew up in a house with a huge garden. That garden had the most delicious apple trees and vegetables. I climbed the highest treetops and envisioned myself as a world traveler—a pirate on her ship sailing all over the world and meeting different people and cultures. I built sand castles and Lego worlds that didn't look like Star Wars. And I dug the deepest holes in the ground, all the way down to the earthworms.
I knew intuitively that I was intrinsically connected to all things and beings around me. The trees were my friends, and I always found peace and solace resting on their strong branches like a jaguar. I listened to Ruhi Su through my dad's shortwave Grundig radio that picked up sounds and distortions from faraway lands.
When I started school, I didn't speak Danish, but within three months I was fluent and could read, speak, and write effortlessly. My photographic memory absorbed words from books with ease. Growing up in a white Danish culture and school system, I also learned quickly that some abilities needed to be hidden - that my fluency could make other Danish people uncomfortable. I spent years dimming my light.
Writing and daydreaming stories flows through me naturally. Writing and telling my own stories is the space where boundaries, time, and space dissolve. I am driven by my why: What kind of beauty do I want to create? What are the dark spaces where I can shine light and create even more beauty? I speak many languages—not just in words and foreign languages, but also in sound, images, design, and sculpture.
I believe that we all have a story to tell, no matter how big or small. The underlying narratives are like threads of rivers that connect us all through cultures, civilizations, time, and space. Stories are how we remember our past - and how we change our future.
We might not remember the exact details of past events, but we never forget how the story, that person, that event made us feel about the world.
